Akshardham Temple in Delhi
Akshardham Temple is also known as Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple. It has been made in the memory of Jyotirdhar Swaminarayan Bhagwan. Akshardham Temple comprises 200 sculptured stone figures of India’s sages, monks, Acharyas and divine incarnations. It also consists of 234 ornately carved pillars, 9 ornate domes, Gajendra Pith and 20,000 statues of divine figures of India. Akshardham Temple is surrounded by Narayan Sarovar lake and carries water from 151 lakes in India. There is also a garden in the shape of lotus. The temple also has Yagnapurush Kund, statues of Lakshmi Narayan, Shiva Parvati, Radha Krishna and Sita Ram.
Aastha kunj Park in Delhi
Aastha Kunj park was inaugurated by our Prime Minister Mr Atal Bihari Vaypee in 2002. Situated in South East Delhi between the neighbourhoods of Lotus Temple, ISKCON temple and Nehru Place. Park is surrounded with lush green lawns, flowering shrubs and green trees. People come here and spend their free time. Many couples also visit the park.
Agrasen Ki Baoli in Delhi
Agrasen ki Baoli was built during the Maharashtra Era by Maharaja Agrasen. Also referred to as Agar Sain Ki Baoli or Ugrasen ki Baoli. It has three stories and 108 steps which goes down to the well. There is a mosque located on its South Western Side which stands on four pillars with a heavy stone on the roof. Agrasen ki Baoli is a protected monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 of the Archaeological Survey of India.
Adham Khan Tomb in Delhi
Adham Khan Tomb is also known as Bhool Bhulaiya. The tomb was built by Emperor Akbar in 1526. Akbar built the tomb in the memory for Adham, and for his grieving mother. The Tombs of Adham Khan lies at the entrance path of Mehrauli Village in South Delhi. The tomb consists of a domed octagonal chamber in the Lodi style, with a verandah on each side pierced by three openings.
Barakhamba Temple in Delhi
Barakhamba, also known as Barakhamba Monument. Barakhamba means twelve pillars in the Urdu and Hindi languages. The tomb has twelve pillars and has three arched openings on each face. Barakhamba monument is a tomb of an unknown nobleman from Lodi period. It has no doors or lattices and is open on all four sides. The passage, laid around the central chamber, has four domed sections at each corner.
Cathedral Church in Delhi
The church is also known as the Viceroy Church. Cathedral Church of the Redemption in Delhi is located on Church Road, wedged between Jaipur Column and the Sansad Bhawan. It was designed by Henry Medd and built between 1927 and 1935. The specialty of this church is that it looks like a birthday cake with a candle placed atop and is believed to have been constructed in such a way that it remains cool even during the driest summers. Festivals like Christmas, Easter and Palm Sunday is celebrated in this church.

Some of the shops you should consider going to are Bharat Bangles Store, Suhag Chura/ Bangles, Tajmahal Bangles, Azad Bangles Store, Babu Churi Wala and so many more in the lanes. They also sell clips, cosmetics and other similar items. But there are still a few shops in the by lanes selling beautiful carved bangles. The narrow lanes, some of which are hardly two & a half feet wide are bustling with life.
Dilli Haat in Delhi
Dilli Haat was established and opened in 1994. Things to buy in this market are brass items, gems, silk, wool, sandalwood articles, rosewood items, metal handicrafts, bead accessories and much more. You can also enjoy the street food of the land and from regions afar. Festivals are held at each Dilli Haat which includes the Great Indian Food Festival in January, Baisaki Festival in April, Summer Festival in June, the International Mango Festival in July, and Teej Festival in August. Every stall in the market sells native and ethnic products and are eco-friendly.
Feroz Shah Kotla Fort in Delhi
Feroz Shah Kotla Fort is also known as Khusk-I-Feroz. The fort was built by Feroz Shah Tughlaq in 1354. It was built in a polygon shape. Many other monuments were constructed in the fort like mosques, palaces, and madrasas. There is a Baoli which is filled with water. Hawa Mahal is pyramid-molded royal residence which was connected to the private rooms. The fort is surrounded by a beautiful garden.
Garden of five senses in Delhi
The garden was inaugurated in 2003. This garden was built to resemble the Mughal Garden. One can see grand rocks stand higher against the sky, whereas others can be seen casually scattered on the ground. The genius sculptures of nature look alluring and captivate the visitors. You will also find fragrant, flowering bushes and trees lined across its paths. The walk begins with a description of trees which are planted in the outer area of the garden i.e. from the steps which you take, for moving in the garden complex.
Hauz Khas Fort in Delhi
Hauz Khas Fort established by Alauddin Khilji in the year 1284. The Hauz Khas Fort was built around a pond or tank. The fort houses many structures mostly built during the Tughlaq dynasty especially the Tomb of Firoz Shah. Its wide lawns are a perfect stop for the kids to play cricket or any other outdoor sport. Hijron Ka Khanqah in Delhi
HIjron Ka Khanqah is located in the Mehrauli area of South Delhi. Hijron ka Khanqah is the the Islamic monument for the burial of the Muslim transgenders. It houses forty-nine graves of the eunuchs who died during the reign of Lodhi dynasty. The compound has a narrow entry gate that lead to a marble patio which is dotted with white colored graves all over. Among the many tombs in the graveyard, the most important is that of a prominent hijra called Miyan Saheb.
Humayun’s tomb in Delhi
It was built in 1565 A.D. nine years after the death of Humayun, by his senior widow Bega Begam. Humayun’s tomb or Maqbara-e-Humayun is the resting tomb of Mughal king, Humayun. The complex holds numerous monuments, tombs and other structures for exploration. The beautiful surrounding gardens called Charbagh which is in Persian style. Other Monuments in the complex are Isla Khan Tomb and Mosque, Nila gumbad, Chillah Nizamuddin Auliya and Barbers Tomb.
ICCR Auditorium in Delhi
ICCR Auditorium is also known as Azad Bhawan. ICCR was founded by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on 9th April 1950. It organizes variety of international and local cultural events. It hosts various events like art exhibitions, dance and musical performances, seminars, talks, workshops and theatre. ICCR Auditorium also hosts events to promote local culture and art forms.
India Gate in Delhi
The India Gate is located in the center of New Delhi. It was made by Edwin Lutyens in 1921. The gate holds inscription of 13,300 names of Indian soldiers, service men and UK officials. The gate is 42-meter-tall standing on a basement made of Bharatpur red stone. India Gate became the site of Amar Jawan Jyoti -Indian Army’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Shrine of the Amar Jawan Jyoti is burning since 1971. During nightfall, India Gate is dramatically floodlit while the fountains nearby make a lovely display with coloured lights.
Jama Masjid in Delhi
The Jami Masjid was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in Shahjahanabad, which he founded in 1639. The ‘Masjid-I Jahan-Numa’ or Jama Masjid as it is more commonly known, means “World Reflecting Mosque.” Jama Masjid is built from red sandstone and white marble. It has two minarets, three gateways and four towers. The mosque houses collection of relics of Muhammad- the Quran written on deerskin, red beard hair of the Prophet and also his sandals and footprints on the Northern gate placed in a cabinet.
Jantar Mantar in Delhi
Jantar mantar in Delhi is one of the five observatories built in 1724 by the Maharaja of Jaipur – Sawai Jai Singh II. Jantar Mantar Delhi was built with purpose of providing accurate astronomical data Maharaja had found that the then present astronomical instruments were quite small, and hence couldn’t make correct observations. It consists of thirteen architectural astronomy instruments. op instruments to spot in Jantar Mantar are Samrat Yantra Jayaprakash Yantra Misra Yantra. It also has Bhairava temple.
Kamani Auditorium in Delhi
Kamani Auditorium was initiated in the year 1971 by Indian President Sh. V.V. Giri. The Auditorium has one big luxurious stage with a width of about 15 meters and a depth of approximately 14 meters. To enable speedy alteration of scenes, sets and lighting design, the stage has 21 flying bars with an upper height of about 14 meters. This facilitate to perform all kinds of dance and drama with ease. Auditorium also have facilities like high protection CCTV system.
Laxminarayan Temple in Delhi
Lakshmi Narayan Temple is also known as Birla Mandir. Lakshmi Narayan Mandir is situated in the west of Connaught Place in Delhi. The temple was constructed by Raja Baldev Das in 1938. The temple has been dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. There are numerous Hindu Symbols and quotes from the Gita and Upanishads ornament. There is also highest Shikara in the temple. Lodhi Garden in Delhi
Lodhi Garden was once known as ‘Lady Willingdon Park’. It is located near the Safdarjung tomb and Khan Market of Delhi. Lodhi Garden is a garden that houses the tombs of Sayyid ruler Mohammed Shah and Lodhi king Sikandar Lodhi. Monuments at Lodi Gardens are Mohammed Shah Tomb, Sikandar Lodi Tomb, Bara Gumbad and Sheesh Gumbad and Athpula. Lodi Gardens consists of a rose garden, a lake and a Greenhouse. Lodhi garden is a famous picnic spot in Delhi. Students from colleges visit the place to spend their leisure hours.
Lotus Temple in Delhi
Lotus temple is built in the shape of a lotus flower and is the last of seven Major Bahai’s temples built around the world. Completed in1986. This place is originally a Bahá’í House of Worship built for all kinds of faiths and religions. Lotus Temple is also called a Bahai House of Worship. The temple is surrounded by nine ponds and gardens. There is an information center inside the complex with paintings that explains the unity of all religions. The temple hosts several classes from time to time to spread humanity, peace, affection, truth and courage.
Mughal Garden in Delhi
The Mughal garden was designed by Sir Edwin Lutynes for Lady Harding. The garden provides Mughal style canals, fountains and terraces. Garden has Four waterways with fountains. The intersection of the waterways consists of 3 tiered huge red sandstone discs that resemble lotus leaves and the chequered flowerbeds give an enchanting look to this wonderfully landscaped garden. Within the campus, there are many small and big lawns, like Pearl garden, butterfly garden and circular garden.
Moth ki Masjid in Delhi
Moth ki Masjid is also known as “the mosque from Lentil”. The mosque was built during the rule of Sikandar Lodi in 1505. It has three domes. The mosque has a prayer chamber with five arched openings. The central arch built of red sandstone and decorated with marble. There are also octagonal chhatris with domes on the walls of the towers.
National Museum in Delhi
National Museum in New Delhi is one the largest museums in India. It is situated on the corner of the Janpath and Maulana Azad Road. It was Established in 1949 by Maurice Gwyer Committee. The Museum has a vast collection of Indian bronzes, terracotta and wood sculptures, various exhibits from the Vijayanagar period in south India, Mughal period, Indus Valley civilization, Greek influenced Gandhara period and Gupta period. Miniatures and mural paintings, costumes, arts and artefacts of various tribal people and precious jewellery heavily decorated with huge emeralds, diamonds and pearls, bronze dancing statue from Mohenjodaro, collection of weapons, musical instruments, central Buddhist antiques and the autographed memories of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir are the eye-catchers at this museum.
National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi
The National Gallery of Modern Art was inaugurated on March 29, 1954 at Jaipur House. The National Gallery of Modern Art boasts a unique collection of paintings, sculptures, graphics and photographs mainly by Indian and some by international modern artists. National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Delhi aims to acquire and preserve works of modern art from 1850s onward. It also has a vision to organize, maintain and develop galleries for permanent display and organize special exhibitions. Museum also organizes lectures, seminars and conferences.
Nizamuddin Dargah in Delhi
Situated in the Hazrat Nizamuddin West area of Delhi. Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is most famous for Sufi saints, Hazrat Khwaja Syed Nizamuddin Auliya. The tombs of poet Hazrat Amir Khusro and Mughal princess Jehan Ara Begum are also located within the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah complex. Other important tombs located in the NIzzamudin heritage area are the Lal-Mahal, Chini Ka Burj, Kalan-Masjid, Ataga Khan’s Tomb, Khan-I-Jahan Tilangani’s Tomb, Barapula, Chaunsath Khamba, and Khan-I-Khanan’s Tomb.
Purana Qila in Delhi
Purana Qila is Constructed by the Mughal emperor, Humayun. The Purana Quila has three majestic gates The Humayun Darwaza, The Bara Darwaza, The Talaqi Darwaza. The Qila-I-Kuhna Masjid was built by Sher Shah. The prayer hall is the most imposing part of the masjid that has five doorways with horse shoe shaped arches. Sher mandal was built for entertainment purposes. The style and design of the building proves a definite coupling of the Muslim and Hindu architectural magnificence. The museum at the gate of the Purana Quila has many artifacts recording of a glorious era of the Mughal period.
Qutub Minar in Delhi
Qutub Minar was built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak. There are six storeys in the minaret with the first three constructed with red sandstone and the next three with sandstone and marble. Each storey has a balcony projecting out. The balcony is surrounded by exclusive artworks. The structures inside the complex include the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the Iron Pillar of Delhi, the Tomb of Imam Zamin, the Tomb of Iltutmish and Major Smith’s Cupola among others.
Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi
The Palace of Rashtrapati Bhavan is located in New Delhi. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. This structure has a neo-Buddhist copper dome along with a circular hall, known as the Durbar Hall. This place is famous for its Mughal Gardens which is open for public between February and March. The elaborate dome-like structure on top of the Rashtrapati Bhavan is known as Chuttri. There were also statues of elephants and fountain sculptures of cobras in the gardens, as well as grilles made from red sandstone called jaalis.
Rail museum in Delhi
Rail Museum was opened on the 1 February 1977. This museum has a collection of over 100 real size exhibits of Indian railways. Static and working models, signaling equipment’s, antique furniture, historical photographs and related literature are displayed in the museum. The indoor gallery of the National Rail Museum displays photographs, coat of arms, exhibits, models, records and documents. Outdoor gallery houses a variety of steam, diesel, and electric locomotives, and a fascinating collection of wagons, carriages, armoured trains, and rail cars. One can also enjoy ride on Toy Train.
Raj Ghat in Delhi
Raj ghat is located in the banks of River Yamuna. Raj Ghat is a memorial that is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. The memorial was designed by Vanu G. Bhuta. The memorial stone of Gandhi is square in shape made of black stone. His last word- ‘Hey Ram’ is inscribed on it. It is situated amidst a well maintained garden with fountains and numerous trees that give the area a serene atmosphere. A remembrance ceremony is held every Friday at Raj Ghat, besides the prayer sessions held at the Ghat on Gandhi’s birth and death anniversaries.
Red Fort in Delhi
Red Fort is also known as Lal Qilla. It is Constructed in the 17th century by the emperor Shah Jahan. Red Fort has Number of museums, the majestic palace and a beautiful garden. The Rang Mahal Consisting of six apartments is a beautiful palace built over a basement that in turn is built around a main hall with rooms at each end. Diwan-I-Khas is a pavilion dressed in full marble. Moti Masjid was a private mosque for Aurangzeb. The fort conducts sound and night show in the evening. Safdarjung’s Tomb in Delhi
The Safdarjung Tomb also referred to as ‘Safdarjung Ka Maqbara’ is a garden tomb in New Delhi. It is made up of marble and sandstone. The architecture and the intricate design of this monument has many different aspects of the ancient Mughal architecture, and the entire construction is composed of many popular Arabic engravings. The garden surrounding the mausoleum provides a very aesthetic landscape for photography. It also has four fountains surrounding its structure.
Salim Garh fort in Delhi
Salimgarh Fort was constructed by Islam Shah Suri in 1546AD. Salimgarh fort is built in triangular shape. Rubble masonry is used to construct the walls and circular bastions can be found on top of the walls. The Salimgarh Fort was earlier used as a prison during the reign of Aurangzeb. This Fort has resemblance to Tower of London. The museum is a must visit place as it has some of the collections from the ancient rulers. Salimgarh Fort attracts many tourists due to the architect.
Shree Adya katyani Shakti Peeth Mandir in Delhi
Shree Adya katyani Shakti Peeth Mandir is also known as Chhatarpur Mandir. It is dedicated to goddess Katyayani. The temple was founded by Sant Shree Nagpal Ji in 1977. The Temple premises features a Shayan Kaksha(bed room) of Navadurga where a bed, dreesing table and a meeting table with nine chairs, all made up of pure silver are present.The temple complex also has other temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva. Festivals like Navratri, Mahashivratri and Janmashtami is celebrated in this temple.
Satpula Bridge in Delhi
Satpula Bridge is built in 1323. The bridge is built in the traditional Sultanate style. The Satpula has been built in stone masonry. Water from the bridge provides for irrigation. There are seven main openings along with two minor ones. When in use, the gate system was controlled through a rope and pulley arrangement, to regulate the flow of water.
Shankar’s International Doll Museum in Delhi
Shankar’s International Doll Museum is by K Shankar in the year 1965. The International Dolls Museum is a large collection of dolls. The collections of dolls are classified into two parts. One part consists of the dolls collected from western countries such as the United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, New Zealand, Commonwealth of Independent States, and the other section consists of dolls collected from other Asian countries, the Middle East, Africa, and India. There are dolls in Kathakali dancing costumes, conventional Lavani costume dancers, dolls depicting different wedding traditions, brides and grooms from different states, dolls in regional dressed etc. It is considered as the best option for children’s day out.
Tughlaqabad Fort in Delhi
The Tughlaqabad fort was built by Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq, the founder of the Tughlaq dynasty. Red sandstone, slate, and marble slabs were used for building its mausoleum. The tomb area is accessible via a 600 ft long bridge built across a now-defunct manmade reservoir. There is a grave of a commoner, namedZafar Khan, present inside the royal family’s mausoleum. Within fort’s high walls, double-storied bastions and massive towers were housed magnificent palaces, grand mosques and audience halls.

Tibet House Museum in Delhi
Tibet House was established in 1965 by the 14th Dalai Lama. About 200 precious Thangka paintings have been gathered as well as over 140 statues in copper, gilded bronze, sandalwood, and stone representing the religious heritage. The Museum also displays other artefacts like ritual objects, jewellery, costumes, household articles, and even ancient weapons. The building also houses a library and an emporium. there is a shop selling Tibetan clothes, jewelry, medicines, incense, curios and a range of handicrafts.
