• Stark of Winterfell, rulers of The North
  • Tully of Riverrun, rulers of The Riverlands
  • Arryn of the Eyrie, rulers of The Vale
  • Lannister of Casterly Rock, rulers of The Westernlands
  • Baratheon of Storm’s End, rulers of The Stormlands
  • Tyrell of Highgarden, rulers of The Reach
  • Martell of Sunspear, rulers of Dorne.
  • The locations of all the places are excellent and sometimes very scary. The main antagonist of this series is the White walkers. They are the beings made of ice and snow and they kill anyone who crossby. Once you start watching this series, you would never leave it.

    “Winter Is Coming”

Bravery isn’t about not fearing, it’s about holding your ground when everything seems to fall apart.
    • Joffrey: If you are an asshole, there’s always the chance that you will get fucked.
    • Theon: Betrayal shows a significant lack of balls.
    • Jon: Despite what we think we know, the truth is that we know nothing.
    • Oberyn: Finish doing before you start talking.
    • Varys: Desire consumes much time and energy. Devoid of it, you’re free to focus on other pursuits.
    • Baelish: The easiest way for a nobody to rise to a somebody in a world of discrimination is through corruption.
    • Tyrion: Be aware of your limitations and strengths. Focus on them both, and do all you can to develop the latter. In the case of Tyrion, it’s literature, knowledge, and intelligence.
    • Jaime:  A romance without morality can go a long way in wronging all your rights.
    • Robb: Reneging on promises is wrong. Occasionally, they come with disastrous consequences.
    • Ned: Family usually comes in the way of honour.
    • Tywin: Family is more important than honour.
    • Bran: When one door closes (dexterity of limbs), another always opens (warging).
    • Sansa: Blind love is a dangerous thing.
    • Hodor: Talking less can save you a lot of unnecessary stress.
    • Cersei: Lust for power is a recipe for discontentment.
    • Ygritte: A killer must be ruthless and loveless.
    • Tommen: Sometimes, you must simply bide time and wait for your chances. They will come.
    • Robert: Adventure and alcohol don’t mix well.
    • Arya: Good friendships can sometimes be the difference between life and death.
    • Pycelle: Suck up and suck up well. You will never achieve greatness, but you will not get into trouble either.

Never assume something will definitely go the way you want
    • Not too much to explain here. GRRM has done a great job subverting genre conventions. Starting with Bran’s fall, he has consistently surprised us with how far he is willing to go in terms of maiming and harming our favorite characters. The Red Wedding is still the most gut wrenching and unbelievable twist I have read. All of it has pounded into my head that assumptions are not safe. Never assume!
First impressions are always shallow and often wrong
    • One of my favorite current characters is Jaime. He’s the same guy that pushed an 8 year old out an window because he was caught committing incest with the current queen of the kingdom! Whenever I think about this, I’m shocked at how much my attitude toward Jaime has changed. All of the characters are much deeper and I have changed my mind about just about all of them through the five books out so far. In real life, this probably means that your first impressions should not sway you too much.
Creative work is always changing and is beyond the author’s control
    • GRRM started this series partially as a reaction to being a tv writer for so long. He wrote a story that was inherently impossible to film, and he wanted it that way. He wrote with tons of characters, sprawling worlds, and had grand battles and amazing marvels. He also planned to write a trilogy. Now we have a tv series, its supposed to be seven books long; there’s also comic books, several novellas connected to the world, and so much merchandise that it makes my head spin. GRRM didn’t plan for this, and as he likes to say, “The story grew with the telling.” Don’t get so mad over the delays, its just what happens when a good story takes on a life of its own.
